Statewide Public Information Organization Will Choose
Winners Virtually Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic

May 15, 2020 –Rowland Water District is pleased to announce that two of its recent customer outreach projects have been named finalists for California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO) 2020 EPIC Awards. This program applauds the most creative and effective efforts in the areas of communication and marketing campaigns, newsletter production, photography, special events, writing, website development, and video production. This year, both Rowland nominations are in the Graphic Design-Print Category, for the District’s Quarterly Newsletter and its Water Quality Report.

“With more than 200 quality entries across the state, our team has a great sense of pride knowing that our projects excelled among tough competition,” says Tom Coleman, Rowland Water District General Manager. “Our newsletter and water quality report are two of our most popular ways of reaching out directly to customers.  It’s validating to see this hard work acknowledged by other leaders in the industry.”

Each nominated entry will be awarded one of two honors:

–  First-place winners receive a coveted EPIC award, CAPIO’s highest honor given to those entrants whose ability to communicate positions them as the best in the field.
–  Runners-up receive the Award of Distinction, presented for projects that exceed industry standards in quality and achievement.

This year’s judging bench included communications peers from the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO). Award winners were scheduled to be announced at the annual CAPIO conference in April, but due to concerns regarding the Coronavirus pandemic, those winners will be determined virtually and announced at a future date yet to be determined.

In 2016, Rowland Water’s Strategic Plan received the Award of Merit at CAPIO’s annual conference.  The project was recognized in the Multi-Year Strategic Planning and Execution category for the development and implementation of “Effective Action for Sustainable Progress”, the District’s guiding planning document developed by staff and the Board of Directors.
