Popular Event Focuses on Community Success Stories and Rich Local History

Rowland Heights, CA (September 27, 2018) – Rowland Water District is proud to be included as a Diamond Level sponsor of the 46th annual Buckboard Days Parade, taking place on Saturday, October 20, 2018. This year’s parade kicks off at 9 am, with Congressman Ed Royce (RCA 39th District) serving as Grand Marshal. This outstanding community event brings together various youth groups, bands, equestrian units, floats, classic cars, and businesses.

Rowland’s parade float theme for this year is “Journey to the Tap”, a reference to the fact that the majority of the water serving residents in Rowland Heights comes from Northern California and the Colorado River.  The vast and interconnected water system is highly complex and not generally understood by water users in Southern California.

“We are always looking for opportunities to explain the complete water story to our customers,” explains Brittnie Van De Car, Public Affairs Representative for Rowland Water District and a Parade Committee member.  “This year’s Buckboard Days parade theme offers us a perfect chance to explain just how connected snow in the Sierras is to their local water supply.”

The event timeline is as follows:

*7 am: Pancake breakfast at Bell Memorial Church
*7:30 am: Street lineup starts
*9 am: Parade (ends at approximately 11 AM)
*11:30 am-2 pm (approximately): Festival and awards at Rowland Park – 1500 Banida Avenue, Rowland Heights

As in prior years, Rowland Water’s Board of Directors will ride on one of several parade floats.  District representatives will also be available to answer questions and engage with customers at a booth following the parade festivities.   Participants will receive promotional items and giveaways aimed at educating the average customer about the complexities of the water system.

Buckboard Days began in 1970 as a three-day festival fundraiser for the Rowland Heights Junior Women’s Club and Rowland Heights Woman’s Clubs Federated. Since then, the name Buckboard Days is a tribute to the progress that has taken place since the first settlers arrived in the area now known as Rowland Heights. Community youth groups and civic organizations have been instrumental in making the event a success over the years, and long-time area residents have traditionally been honored and invited to participate. Rowland Water has proudly supported the event for many years.
