All Californians asked to reduce water by 25 percent

California Governor Jerry Brown issued first-ever statewide mandatory water reductions on Wednesday, as the state endures its fourth year of drought. Rowland Water District is responding immediately to the new regulations.

Tom Coleman, Rowland Water District General Manager issued this statement:

“The governor’s state-wide mandates are necessary during these unprecedented drought conditions. Extreme statewide conservation measures are needed to secure our state’s vital water supply. Rowland Water District is working diligently with our customers to maximize conservation efforts in our area with multiple water use efficiency programs and drought awareness campaigns already in place. With these, and our customer support, we believe we can reach the governor’s mandate to reduce water consumption by 25 percent, which will save the state 1.5 million acre-feet of critical water within the next nine months.

The governor is asking for swift compliance, and we are responding. The new regulations come with assistance including the $1.1 billion emergency drought relief bill and consumer rebates, which should help customers reach conservation levels quickly. State assistance will complement the programs we already have in place, and we will consider implementing additional programs to assist in the collaborative effort to reduce water use immediately. Conservation requires the support of every Californian, and we will do whatever we can to comply immediately with these regulations and any others that follow.”

Rowland Water District will hold a special board meeting on Tuesday, April 28 at 6pm to discuss Governor Brown’s recent declarations, pending water supply allocations from Metropolitan Water District and potential impacts to customers.
