Two Local Students win First Place in Broadcast Media Contest
Alvarado Intermediate School takes First Place against 31 Entries

Two students from Alvarado Intermediate School in Rowland Heights took first place in the Broadcast Media and Digital Art Contest against 31 total entries, the largest amount of entries total in the contest. Harry Yang and Desmond Chi, both 8th graders displayed an amazing conservation message in their Public Service Announcement (PSA) that swept the competition and won 1st place and a check for $400.

On Tuesday, May 2nd, Brittnie Van De Car, Public Affairs Representative from Rowland Water District presented a check to both students at a schoolwide assembly where other awards were also presented. Both students spent months gathering conservation information and editing the PSA to get the ending result.

“Learning the effects that the drought has taken on Southern California while putting together this PSA was an eye-opening experience,” said Desmond Chi, 8th grader at Alvarado Intermediate. “We had no idea until today that we won first place, and it was amazing to hear this announcement in front of our entire school,” said Harry Yang 8th grader at Alvarado Intermediate School.

In partnership with the Water Education/Water Awareness Committee, Rowland Water District is able to continue programs such as the Broadcast Media and Digital Art Contest. For more information on the programs that Rowland offers visit our website at www.rwd.org
