Annual event celebrates unique working relationship between employers and employees

November 22, 2016– Rowland Water District united with OPARC, a non-profit organization last year to assist with the painting of fire hydrants around the District.  Four special needs employees were selected by the OPARC organization to be a part of Rowland’s work force.  In the last twelve months, these workers have painted more than 1,000 hydrants in an effort to beautify the community.

In a special ceremony last month, these newest members of Rowland Water District’s workforce were recognized for their undeniable commitment to helping the organization serve its customers. San Bernardino County Supervisor Janice Rutherford attended the event where Rowland received a certificate of recognition for its inaugural involvement with the organization. Director Anthony Lima and General Manager Tom Coleman were on hand to accept on the District’s behalf.

OPARC is a part of the California Disability Services Association and is one of 90 chapters across California, which promotes the advancement of adults with disabilities to enter the work force in our communities.   Today, OPARC serves more than 800 developmentally disabled adults in Southern California.

“We have been honored to see their hard work pay off and see our District beautify with every fire hydrant that they have painted,” said Rowland Water District General Manager Tom Coleman.   “All of us at Rowland look forward to watching this job program flourish for years to come.”
