Board vacancy will be focus of special board meeting Tuesday, March 2nd.

Rowland Heights, CA (February 28, 2021) – In lieu of the sudden death of Board President Teresa Rios, Rowland’s Board of Directors has acted to approve new committee assignments for its Board executives. Rios, a mother of two who had most recently won reelection this past November, passed away in January due to complications related to COVID-19.   The Board of Directors will hold a special meeting, Tuesday, March 2nd to address the Board vacancy, interview prospective candidates and conduct a vote to fill the Division I Director seat.

“There are no words adequate enough to express our profound sadness at the loss of such a generous public servant,” says Tom Coleman, Rowland Water District General Manager. “While President Rios is irreplaceable, we will do our very best to honor her memory by continuing the good work that she carried out in our community and filling her seat in the best interest of our customers.”

Current Board Vice President Anthony Lima will assume the role of Board President until 2022, while Director Szu Pei Lu-Yang will take on the role vacated by Lima. Additionally, Director John E. Bellah will now serve as the Alternate Representative on the PWR Joint Water Line Commission, with Director Lima as main representative. Director Lu-Yang will act as the sole representative for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Advisory Council. Each appointee traditionally serves a one-year term as a member of his/her respective committee(s).

Rowland Water District will make any announcements regarding the Board vacancy following the March 2nd board meeting.  For more information and an agenda for the special meeting, visit www.rwd.org.
