ESSENTIAL WORKERS AND CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT TAKE
CENTER STAGE DURING SPECIAL DISTRICTS WEEK
District Services are Critical to Local Communities During Pandemic and Beyond

May 20, 2020 –As part of the observance for this year’s Special Districts Week, Rowland Water District is acknowledging essential employees who have been invaluable to the District’s day to day operations during the COVID-19 pandemic that has swept the state and nation. The California Special Districts Association (CSDA) celebrates the second annual Special Districts Week beginning May 17-23, 2020 as a way to help raise awareness and understanding in the community about the pivotal role that special districts play in everyday life.

“Even in the midst of this global pandemic, our dedicated employees are out there working on the front lines to ensure that clean, safe water is delivered to customers throughout our service area, and this week’s observance is an ideal way for the community to better understand the importance of our role in local government,” says Tom Coleman, Rowland Water District General Manager.

More than 2,000 independent special districts provide millions of Californians with essential services, including services related to water, sanitation, fire protection, electricity, parks and recreation, health care, open space, ports and harbors, flood protection, mosquito abatement, resource conservation, road maintenance, and more. Working within defined local boundaries, these districts contribute to critical policy making and significant legislative issues.

“Our role is unique and so is our perspective,” adds Coleman. “As a special district, we maintain greater local control and influence, ultimately benefiting each and every Rowland Water customer.”

CSDA is a 501c(6), not-for-profit association formed in 1969 to promote good governance and improved core local services through professional development, advocacy, and other services for all types of independent special districts, including Rowland Water.
