District’s Open Government Practices Earn Statewide Honor

December 1, 2021 — Rowland Water District’s open and accessible operations and good governance practices garnered a District Transparency Certificate of Excellence from the Special District Leadership Foundation.

The statewide award is based on the District’s completion of essential governance transparency requirements such as ethics training for all board members, properly conducting open and public meetings, and the timely filing of financial transactions and compensation reports to the State Controller.

“This award acknowledges Rowland Water District’s commitment to open government and the value that our board and staff place on public accountability,” General Manager Tom Coleman said. “We will continue to facilitate public access to information and provide the engagement and oversight that are the hallmarks of a well-run public agency.”

As part of its focus on transparency, the District communicates with its customers and stakeholders through a regular newsletter and provides a financial dashboard at board meetings.
Rowland Water District was among a dozen public agencies recognized by the Special District Leadership Foundation, an independent non-profit organization that promotes best practices among California’s special districts through certification, accreditation, and other recognition programs.
