Edu-Grant Program
The Edu-Grant Program provides financial support to teachers interested in doing creative classroom projects that increase students’ awareness of water as a significant resource. TWO teachers from within the District’s service area received $500.00 each -- congratulations Rorimer Elementary and Nogales High School!
Poster Contest
Students have taken an active role in spreading the word on the importance of water conservation. The Rowland Water District collected posters from schools in our area, Grades 1 through 12, for consideration in the Metropolitan Water District Poster Contest. Two entries from Nogales High School, La Puente, were among those selected to be featured in Metropolitan’s 2012 Calendar. Click to download the .pdf file.
Project WET “Teacher In Service” Workshop
Teachers in the RWD service area were given the opportunity to participate in exciting grade-level, hands-on water conservation activities which they could implement in their curriculum and were provided with FREE water education materials for their classrooms.
Theater Group
The National Theater for Children performed “Aqua League and the Drought Dilemma” at several elementary schools throughout the RWD service area during the 2009-2010 school year. They are scheduled to perform again during the 2010-2011 school year. Teachers are provided with workbooks and teacher guides to promote water awareness in the classroom. Click for Video.
Video/PSA Contest
Glen A. Wilson High School located in the RWD service area was awarded $400.00 for taking Second Place in the 15th annual Water Education Water Awareness Committee (WEWAC) Video/PSA Contest. The objective of the contest is to increase the importance of water awareness in local high schools through group participation. Congratulations to Faculty Advisor, Tim Stimpfel, and to the participants in this year’s contest. Click for video.
