Strategic plan wins Award of Merit at Statewide Excellence in Communications Awards
Rowland Water District’s (RWD) strategic plan has been recognized for excellence in a statewide competition sponsored by the California Association of Public Information Officers (CAPIO).
Every year, CAPIO’s Excellence in Communications Awards honor outstanding public agency outreach and communications programs across California. At a reception in April, RWD was recognized in the Multi-Year Strategic Planning and Execution category for the development and implementation of the District’s strategic plan.
Keeping its guiding principle – “Effective Action for Sustainable Progress” – in mind, RWD’s strategic plan focuses on applying the District’s core values of accountability, communication, and teamwork into tangible and attainable tactics in planning areas such as communication, value, organizational development, water supply diversity, system reliability, and financial stewardship.
“A successful strategic plan ensures that our district is headed in the right direction, especially in a time of uncertainty for California water providers,” said Tom Coleman, general manager of Rowland Water District. “Our directors and staff are proud to be recognized at a statewide level for our commitment to our mission and our customers.”
RWD’s plan offers a roadmap to achieving further distinction in customer service, increasing ratepayer and community participation in decision-making processes, continuing stewardship of water and financial resources, and further developing customer service skills. The award made the District its home when it was presented to the RWD Board of Directors at the May 10 board meeting.
“We are thrilled to have this award as a symbol of what Rowland Water District strives to accomplish,” said Szu Pei Lu-Yang, RWD board president. “We will continue to keep the community we serve at the forefront of our minds as we make the right decisions for our ratepayers.”
