Southern California Water Utilities Association Award Recognizes RWD’s
Contribution to Regional Water Community

(Rowland Heights, Calif., January 29, 2014) – Ken Deck, General Manager of the Rowland Water District, accepted the prestigious Walter O. Weight Award last December.  Given annually by the Southern California Water Utilities Association (SCWUA), recipients are nominated by the group’s membership.  It is an important, peer-nominated award given to those who have made significant contributions to SCWUA throughout their tenure with the organization.

“Our relationship with SCWUA is an important one for Rowland, and for the water industry in general.  Receiving the Walter Weight award is such a distinction for our district,” says Ken Deck, General Manager of Rowland Water District. “The fact that our peers nominated us for this award is a great source of pride for Rowland Water District and really reflects the hard work our employees put forth every single day for our customers.”

Named for Walter O. Weight, Founder of SCWUA, the award signifies the importance of fellowship within the water industry. Walter Weight gathered with friends, frequently taking field trips to tour water facilities.  What started out as a group of friends in water related businesses getting together once a month for a field trip and lunch has evolved into today’s Southern California Water Utilities Association. SCWUA is comprised of membership from a wide range of not only water utility personnel but also other utility organizations and regulatory agencies along with ancillary companies providing support services to the utilities.

Ken Deck, Dave Warren and Ted Carrera from RWD have all been active members of SCWUA for more than a decade, helping with various events, and Ken Deck has even served as Board President for SCWUA in prior years.  These continuing contributions from RWD were the impetus behind the nomination, and Rowland Water District remains committed to actively partnering with SCWUA in the future.

SCWUA is run by a volunteer group of professional men and women who donate their time to administer the programs, vendor fairs, field trips and other functions of the Association. With an annual budget of approximately $25,000 and a current membership of 415 members, the Association provides a means of sharing information and a sense of fellowship, much like Walter Weight espoused back in 1932.
