Local Students Showcase Artistic Talents in Water-Wise Poster Contest
Eight winning entries advance to a regional competition

(July 13, 2016) – Rowland Water District (RWD) received a record number of student submissions to this year’s Water is Life Poster Contest, which aims to raise awareness of the value of water.

The annual contest drew 576 entries from 10 schools within RWD’s service area. From the submissions, which were submitted by 33 classrooms, District staff selected the top three winners each for elementary and middle school, and first- and second-place winners from the high school level.

New this year, Rowland launched an internal competition which narrowed the entries down to eight students who will progress to the regional contest sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD). Those lucky students who designed those posters were awarded Barnes and Noble gift cards by RWD.

“We were impressed with the talent and artistic skills the students showcased in their posters this year,” said Tom Coleman, RWD General Manger. “We hope the water-wise message continues for the generations to come.”

MWD will select 36 entries from the regional competition to be included in its Water Is Life calendar, which is distributed to schools and the community. The artwork also will be featured in a traveling art show and on MWD outreach materials, and will appear on MWD’s website for a week. MWD expects to announce the winners by early December.
